With the introduction of the Municipal Solid Wastes (Management & Handling) Rules 2000, scientific waste treatment was mandated in India. With its expertise in municipal solid waste (MSW) treatment and conversion of it’s organic component to city compost, Excel Industries Limited set up about 12 MSW plants across India with a vision of converting using urban waste to support rural and peri-urban farming. These plants are modelled to implement Excel’s patented technology to convert organic waste into compost. Our plants are capable of treating waste ranging in quantities from 100 to 500 metric tonnes of MSW per day.
Commissioned in the year 2001, Excel’s flagship MSW plant at Ahmedabad treats a total of 300 tonnes of MSW on a daily basis. The entire site has been a pioneer in scientific waste management in India and has received many accolades for its design and technology. The plant has treated nearly 15 lakh tonnes of MSW till date. The Ahmedabad site uses modern technology and Excel’s patented process to convert organic waste into city compost - Richcel.
Solid waste management is a pressing issue in small island developing countries like Mauritius due to the limited land space available and the surrounding fragile marine ecosystem. Excel has set up an MSW treatment plant in Mauritius which treats 600 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste in a day.
Excel Industries in 2020 bagged the operations and maintenance of the 600 TPD MSW treatment plant at Karsara, Varanasi and has been successfully running the plant since January 2020. This plant is one of Varanasi Nagar Nigam’s biggest centralised facilities supporting waste management in the holy city of Varanasi which generates a total of 2.2 lakh tonnes of MSW annually.
